Financial Aid Rights and Responsibilities

As a financial aid recipient at Mississippi College, you have rights to information regarding your federal, state and institutional financial assistance.

You have the right to know:

Cost of Attendance: How your budget is developed.

Availability of Funds & Eligibility: The financial assistance that is available to you (including all federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs) and the requirements for each award.

Explanation of Funds: The types of aid awarded to you and their terms & conditions for renewal.

Deadlines of Applications: The due dates of applications for available financial aid programs.

Satisfactory Academic Progress: How the university determines whether you are meeting the standards to continue receiving federal Title IV financial aid. If you are placed on financial aid suspension, how to submit an appeal for financial aid suspension or loss of a scholarship.

Disbursements: How and when funds are applied to your student account.

Federal Work Study: A description of the job, hours you must work, rate of pay, and how/when you will be paid.

Federal Student Loans: Receive information regarding your student loan debt burden including the interest rates, total amount you must repay, when repayments begin, the length of your repayment, and the cancellation & deferment provisions applicable to your loan(s).

Re-evaluation of Your Eligibility: How to request a review and/or decision by the Office of Financial Aid concerning your aid package.

Financial Need: What resources (such as parental & student contribution, other financial aid, assets, etc.) were considered in the calculation of your financial need.

Consumer Disclosures: Information about Mississippi College including our academic programs, retention rates, graduation rates, crime reports, financial aid procedures and other important statistics, requirements and services.

Withdrawal Process: If you withdraw after the semester begins, you may be subject to repayment of financial aid funds as defined in MC’s withdrawals and return of funds policy.

You have the responsibility to:

Read and understand all electronic and written communication and follow-up on any uncertainties. Notification of revisions as well as all other communications will be sent to your official ±«Óătvemail.

Complete the FAFSA annually. If selected for verification, you will provide all requested documents in a timely manner, and ensure that all submitted materials are complete and accurate. Falsification of information on application forms for federal financial assistance is considered a criminal offense, and you may be subject to penalties under the U.S. Criminal Code.

Complete all requirements accurately and submit them by their deadlines in the appropriate manner.

Accepts the contents of all agreements that you sign with the federal government and the university.

Attend class and obtain the grades required to continue on aid programs.

Be aware of the university’s withdrawal process and refund policies and procedures and know the consequences of each decision you make.

Notify the Office of Financial Aid of any change in your enrollment, housing, or financial aid status, and the receipt of any outside grants or scholarships.

Satisfactorily perform the work agreed upon in a Federal Work Study job.

Complete an entrance counseling interview and an exit interview id you receive federal student loans and repay any student loans you may have borrowed.

Monitor your federal grants and/or loans received so that you do not exceed allowable aggregate limits.
